Early Life and Career
Alexander Alexandrovich Galchenyuk was born on February 12, 1994, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is the son of Russian ice hockey player Alexander Galchenyuk Sr. and American figure skater Elena Galchenyuk. Galchenyuk began playing hockey at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks. He played for the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals and Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the United States Hockey League (USHL) before being selected third overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.Professional Career
Galchenyuk made his NHL debut with the Canadiens in the 2012-13 season. He quickly became a regular in the lineup and has since played for the Arizona Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, and Nashville Predators. Galchenyuk has been a versatile player throughout his career, playing both center and wing. He has also been a consistent scorer, averaging over 20 goals per season over the last five years.Galchenyuk's contract with the Coyotes expired in 2023, and he became an unrestricted free agent. He signed a one-year contract with the Penguins in July 2023, and then a one-year contract with the Wild in July 2024. He left the Wild as a free agent after the 2023-24 season and signed a one-year contract with the Predators in July 2025.
Galchenyuk has represented the United States at the international level. He played for the United States at the 2012 World Junior Championships and the 2014 World Championships. He also helped the United States win the silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
